Review - a family bike tour in the country.
We are a family of four (children 7 and 11 years old) and recently travelled to Holland for a week holiday in Amsterdam. I found Edmond and GuideHolland online and very much liked the feel of his website and knowledge of the Dutch countryside.
When I contacted him via email his response was expedient and professional. We decided on a full day bicycle ride and a general description of what we would do; we were interested in riding in the country, we like wildlife, and were interested in seeing some windmills.
We could not have been happier with the experience.
We met Edmond at the central train station very promptly at 930 am and discussed our day as we travelled to the village of Weesp where we collected our bicycles. We began the day adjusting to our bicycles followed by a private tour of a functioning windmill.
We stopped for a lovely and extremely generous packed lunch provided by Edmond before continuing on to the fortified city of Naarden where we stopped at a small petting farm and learned some more Dutch history.
On route we passed a Jewish cemetery and when I mentioned we were Jewish, Edmond pleasantly suggested we stop there and take a look around. We cycled on through woodlands and wetlands and returned back to Weesp just before 7 pm.
We were all thoroughly impressed by Edmond's wealth of knowledge and learned such a tremendous amount about Holland and it's history during our travels together. He also has a lovely demeanour and was excellent with the children, encouraging them on and making things relaxed and fun.
We all agree it was a highlight of our trip to Holland and one that would have been difficult to accomplish without a local and knowledgeable guide. We would highly recommend Edmond to anyone interested in learning more about Dutch history, exploring the country on foot or bicycle, or generally having a special day out.
